Juglans regia, commonly known as the Persian or English walnut, is a widely consumed nut, packed with proteins and essential fatty acids. Known for both its nutritional benefits and medicinal applications, the walnut is heavily cultivated around the world, with Eastern Europe as the highest yielding region.
On a recent trip to Europe, I was stalking through a farmers market when I came a cross a beautifully displayed crate of ready to eat walnuts. The rich texture and depths of earthy browns and yellows in the crate, matched with the natural shadowing presented a perfect opportunity for a photo shoot. The beauty in what seem feel is an ugly nut is clear to see here. Each walnut different to its neighbour, each ripple in its hard shell so unique.
